Pros

The AA offers a strong environment for people who want to do serious security work that matters. The challenges are healthy rather than chaotic, with enough complexity to keep the role engaging while still giving people room to shape outcomes. It is a place where security is not confined to a silo; there is real opportunity to influence across the organisation, and good ideas can come from any level of seniority. One of the biggest strengths is the ability to work across teams and make a visible impact beyond your immediate remit. People are encouraged to contribute, challenge constructively, and help move the organisation forward. That creates a culture where influence is earned through insight and delivery, not just title. The use of modern, cutting-edge security technologies is a genuine plus. There is clear value placed on keeping capabilities current and using the right tools to improve resilience, detection, response, and overall security maturity. For security professionals who want exposure to a forward-looking environment, that is a real advantage.

Cons

The pace can be demanding, and the organisation is complex enough to keep people stretched. For the right person, that is part of the appeal: there is plenty to get stuck into, and plenty of scope to help shape how security evolves.

Thank you for taking the time to share such detailed feedback, and for your continued contribution over the past 8 years. It’s great to hear your perspective on the security function and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact across the organisation. Creating an environment where colleagues can influence, collaborate and contribute ideas at all levels is something we’re really proud of, and it’s encouraging to see this reflected in your experience. We’re also pleased to hear your comments on the use of modern technologies and the focus on building strong, forward-looking capabilities. Supporting our teams with the right tools and opportunities to shape outcomes is a key priority for us. We recognise your point around pace and complexity. While this can be part of what makes the role engaging, it’s important that we continue to support colleagues to manage this effectively. Thank you as well for your advice around transparency in hiring. Setting clear expectations and helping people understand the environment they’re joining is essential, and your insight is appreciated. Thanks again for sharing your experience and for the impact you continue to make.

Pros

I joined the AA's content team in 2017 to assist with their digital transformation project and found it to be a supportive, enthusiastic and generally fun environment to work in.

Cons

Shareholders could be tricky to work with but with time, I was able to navigate it all and get stuff done.
