Last year we opened up our new office in the US. The team there has been working on the mobile platform for Android and iOS in partnership with the mobile platform team in India. They work on technical problems that help the entire mobile team ship apps faster, and with higher quality. We are hiring engineers to build our team there and scale over the next couple of years. We are thrilled to share that PhonePe has launched a new Shopping app called “Pincode”, built on top of the ONDC platform. The app will focus on hyperlocal commerce and is now available for download on Google Play Store and App Store. Pincode is currently live only for customers in Bangalore and will launch in other cities very soon. It will promote local shopkeepers and sellers and hopes to digitally connect each city’s consumers with all their neighborhood stores that they usually buy from offline, with the convenience of online ordering, great discounts, and instant refunds and returns. Speaking at the launch event Sameer Nigam, Founder & CEO, PhonePe said, “We are very excited to launch Pincode. Pincode is a brand-new shopping app that offers a revolutionary new approach to e-commerce, which puts all the local stores and sellers at the heart of the digital shopping growth story. Pincode is built on the ONDC network, which allows us to generate demand for merchants digitized by various seller platforms in an inclusive manner while creating new opportunities for growth."
PhonePe recently became the first fintech platform to enable UPI activation using Aadhaar based OTP authentication. This will enable several crore Indians to become a part of the UPI ecosystem, seamlessly and securely for the first time. Speaking on the launch Deep Agrawal, Head of Payments at PhonePe said, “We are excited to be the first fintech platform to offer Aadhaar based authentication for our users, making the UPI onboarding flows even more simple and inclusive. We believe this is a very progressive move by RBI, NPCI and UIDAI and is a great example of the digital financial inclusion that UIDAI’s Aadhaar program has been able to drive. This will help expand the overall UPI ecosystem, and also onboard new customers to the digital payments fold. UPI has become a global exemplar, and countries across the world are looking to implement it. Going forward, we are closely working with NPCI to take UPI international.’’

A month ago, the PhonePe Tech Bootcamp 2022 came to an end. The Bootcamp ensures that tech hires undergo a 6-week program to help them adjust to PhonePe platforms, projects, understand our distinct engineering philosophy, and the PhonePe tech culture and approach. It’s built to aid the Bootcampers in developing the appropriate mentality and skill set necessary to function in our fast-paced and highly ambiguous work environment. Our latest blog post features what our Bootcampers had to say about this year’s PhonePe Tech Bootcamp 2022.
We’re thrilled to share that PhonePe recently deployed over 10 lakh SmartSpeakers to merchant partners across the country. We also processed over 100 crores (1 billion) transactions via the devices, within just 3 months of launch. Speaking on the milestone Vivek Lohcheb, Head of Offline Business at PhonePe said, “Digital payments are now ubiquitous in India as they have helped eliminate various issues pertaining to cash transactions. PhonePe’s SmartSpeaker is a big step in providing cutting-edge payment services to our merchant partners, especially in the mass market, and this has opened up a new channel for engaging with our vast merchant base. Deploying more than 10 lakh devices in less than 3 months, marks a significant milestone given the speed & scale at which retailers have embraced this value added offering from PhonePe.’’
