Interview
I recently had the opportunity to interview for a Software Developer position at a renowned company. The interview process consisted of three rounds, each focusing on different aspects of my technical knowledge and expertise. The questions were thought-provoking and required a deep understanding of various technologies and frameworks. Overall, the experience was challenging and rewarding. Here is a breakdown of each round and the questions asked:
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Round 1: Technical Round The first round primarily focused on testing my knowledge of JavaScript, React, and Redux. The questions were designed to assess my understanding of state management, asynchronous programming, and best practices for building efficient applications. Some of the key questions included: Explain how effects are written in Redux-Saga. Describe in-depth the working of generator functions. Discuss your knowledge and experience with react-native-fast image. Explain how Linking works in React Native. Elaborate on your understanding of PN (Push Notifications). Describe your deep knowledge of CI/CD (Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment). Explain how the try-catch mechanism works in JavaScript. Round 2: React Native and Performance Optimization The second round primarily focused on React Native development and performance optimization techniques. The questions delved into the specifics of React Native architecture, state management, and performance improvement strategies. Some of the key questions included: How would you optimize a React Native application for better performance? What are the key differences between Redux and MobX? Compare Crashlytics and Bugsnag in terms of their functionality and use cases. Describe your experience with automation for Play Store release. Explain how state renders with the help of state and props. Elaborate on the working of reducers in Redux. Round 3: Final Round - Project Discussion and Cultural Fit The final round of the interview process involved a discussion about my past projects and how they related to the company's requirements. Additionally, there was an assessment of my cultural fit within the organization. The interviewers were interested in understanding my problem-solving approach and how well I could work within a team.
The interview mainly focused on problem-solving and optimization skills. I was asked to solve the "3Sum Closest" problem, where the goal was to find three numbers in an array whose sum is closest to a given target.
I started with the brute-force approach (checking all triplets) and then optimized it using sorting and two-pointer technique to reduce the time complexity from O(n³) to O(n²). The interviewer asked follow-up questions about index management, edge cases (like duplicates and negative numbers), and how to further optimize the solution if the input size was very large.
I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Delhivery (Gurgaon, Haryana) in Aug 2024

Feedback on Interview Process at Delhivery, Gurgaon
Interview Mode: Online
HR Support:
The HR team did not provide adequate information about the interview process, the type of upcoming rounds, or a clear job description for the next stage. Additionally, after the interview, there was no response to emails or calls seeking feedback. Candidates deserve constructive feedback to improve and prepare for future opportunities.
Interview Experience:
The overall experience was disappointing. The interviewer demonstrated a lack of respect and courtesy towards the candidate, which came across as unprofessional. It seemed as though the primary intent was to demotivate rather than evaluate the candidate’s capabilities.
Questions:
The questions were average and primarily situational. However, the interviewer was rigid in their expectations, insisting on specific answers that matched their solutions, without being open to alternate perspectives or innovative approaches offered by the candidate.
Recommendation to Management:
Management should ensure that candidates are treated with respect and professionalism during the interview process. Candidates spend sleepless nights preparing and may require minor guidance or hints to solve problems during interviews. A small gesture of help could significantly impact a candidate’s life. It's also important to acknowledge that recalling the correct answer at the right moment can sometimes be challenging, and showing empathy in such situations would reflect positively on the organization.
Example Questions Asked:
Database indexing
Elasticsearch
API security
CDN vs. regular servers
Dockerization vs. Kubernetes orchestration
Latest version of Python (Is knowing the exact version of a tool or language truly a deciding factor in passing or failing a candidate?)
Providing an environment that fosters constructive conversations and respect would not only benefit candidates but also enhance Delhivery's reputation as an employer.
