1. Reached out by third party recruiter, was told that the position was heavily DevOps focused and a contract-to-hire at 6 months.
2. Interview with Hiring Manager - Didn't match role description (from recruiter) at all. He says they want a Software Engineer to focus on writing C++ REST APIs (weird and uncommon case). I was told that they were still interested in doing an on site interview.
3. Interview with DevOps Engineer, Software Engineer, and Systems Architect that lasted nearly 3 hours. They asked about everything but very little about Software Engineering. The interview was all over the place. Asking about DevOps, some programming, and a lot of System Architecture.
4. Recruiter reached out saying that they were not interested anymore.
This probably has been one of the worst interviewing experiences that I've had in a while. The flipping back and forth as to what the position was supposed to be was incredible. I had no idea what to expect from the interviews given that and it was impossible to prepare for them. I also clearly told them that I had not used C++ since 2017 from the beginning and that seemed to be their main concern.
A pretty disrespectful process. Felt like I was playing dodge ball all the time. Why waste a person's time if you clearly cared mainly about them using C++ recently?
