Pros

Prior to getting acquired by Zelis and subsequent restructuring I was part of a great team.

Cons

They will let you go in a heartbeat. I’d seen it happen to others, and still I foolishly believed all the phony culture-washing that they push day in and day out, as well as boasting about this being a “top place to work in NJ”. Then it spread to my team. Please don’t fall for this. Leadership is quite aloof with a CEO who doesn’t even say hello to fellow employees, even during these so-called culture-building events. Bain Capital… The strategy is also haphazard with a number of products from various acquired firms over the years and they don’t seem to know which one to focus on. Either that or it’s a catch and kill philosophy, where they acquire you and basically ignore or then let your hard-earned product die on the vine. They continue to hire overseas which is absolutely fine, but in this case it’s more to slowly replace what they appear to consider the overpaid staff who helped build the company to what it is, and do so without any acknowledgment. I am still in touch with a lot of folks who work there and the majority are also looking for a way out, which is sad considering how tight knit we all were at various points in the past.

Pros

Good work/life balance, generous PTO

Cons

• Excessive management layers: There are too many layers of management, many of which seem focused on self-preservation rather than supporting the team. This creates unnecessary bureaucracy, leaving employees bogged down with low-value tasks and corporate checkboxes instead of meaningful work. • Outdated technology and resistance to innovation: The tech stack is significantly outdated, and there is a clear resistance to adopting modern solutions. For example, I was penalized for incorporating AI into development work, despite other teams being encouraged to use tools like ChatGPT for less impactful tasks. Opportunities to implement cost-saving, AI-driven solutions were dismissed without proper consideration. • Unsustainable expectations for advancement: Promotions appear to be reserved only for top performers who are willing to prioritize work above all else. The expectation to “eat, sleep, and breathe” the job creates an unhealthy work-life balance and limits growth opportunities for otherwise strong contributors.
