Pros

They have a good selection of tea in the cafeteria. It taught me not to chase money and choose happiness over what I can only describe as the worst experience of my life. Some team members are cool and you'd have a nice time hanging with them during company trips.

Cons

I felt like I have regressed in my career in the time I've spent here. Almost everyone here is miserable and most are hanging on for the money. I am surprised a company as big as this can offer so little. They have a heavy 2 month notice and I count down my days by scratching days of a calendar like a prisoner counting their days to freedom. The tech stack is basic, bad code is allowed through without any review, management does not have any idea of the internal workings of the product or the condition of their employees, they have substandard internal tools that they force you to use so you'll spend a lot of time integrating and not so much coding. Not to mention it's office is situated in Belandur which is a not so great part of Bangalore (strict WFO). One thing to note here is that PhonePe has various different pods, and the one I am in is not the core PhonePe application. I would not wish employment in this company to my worst enemy.

Pros

No Pros for me. Just don't go for the brand name for your CV.

Cons

No work life balance Irrelevant working pressure Poor management from top to bottom (Offline Team) False commitments on every front, be it remuneration or Job Description, etc No motivation for employees, just pressure HR policies just meant for ppt's not for employees High attrition rate Don't fall for the trap in JD and Remuneration break up, else regret your decision.

Pros

1. Tech stack is good. Dropwizard framework with polyglot persistance including MariaDB, Aerospike, ElasticSearch and Hbase. Message Queues like RabbitMQ and Kafka. Numerous internal dropwizard bundles acting as facade 2. Money yeah you will get a lot depending on your previous salary and offers

Cons

1. PIP culture. Guy who recommended me PhonePe saying it's so good is on PIP himself | 2. Young workforce mostly freshers so ways of working is adhoc. Early joiners with 6-8 of years of exp are Architect/Engineering Manager. No proper defined guidelines. Requirements can change frequently. They call it Agile :p. 3. Generally people work on weekend and after office. Good to know this before joining. 4. My personal life has taken a bad hit here 5. Everyone here is slogging off. Culture of doing things as fast as possible with no proper testing, may be no QAs, no proper test cases, improper monitoring and alerting. Error handling yeah we get a 500 message something went wrong majorly. 6. Work from office culture. WFH is strongly discouraged which may be fine but overworking with work from office culture is worse. 7. People from amazon making the culture worse. Culture has changed from ok to bad to worse. 8. Lot of ego and people do not respect each other. Every senior guy has 30-50 messages which they will never reply to. These guys will not suggest you what to do but will come later on saying you should have done it this way or give the reviews. Observed it cross-teams. 9. Oldies vs Newbies politics. They have inducted some mid senior engineer whose presence has threatened people who are working there for 2-3 people and have grown their influence. These people will try their best to sideline you and as far as I have observed they are successful in doing so very bad for mid senior engineer. Don't bother to join. 10. Few people have too much power to screw you. You have to be in good books. Entire org is people oriented rather than being process oriented so it helps these people to do what they wish. 11. People don't tell you what work you have to do. What features they want and all. They just need you to figure out as they don't have time to look into things. Requirement is not detailed. Nobody works on requirement or anything. Just do it. Then do iterations as long as your lead is not satisfied. 12. Valuation has peaked in near term so don't think much appreciation in ESOPs for now. You get ESOP which they may buyback certain % but you can not liquidate them so paper money. 13. No rating, No hierarcy and hence no promotion. 13. No documentation so you have hard time understanding things 14. Operating like a startup so all the cons that comes with startup are here
