Pros

International company, depending on the role it can give you the opportunity to travel and work in different countries for short or long term.

Cons

Management is very complicated (hierarchy is not clear, many conflicts between managers, not enough appreciation to your efforts, managers not providing learning opportunities or future career opportunities). Compensation for a starter is ok, bad thing is that it stayed the same for the upcoming years even though the responsibilities increased. Long trips abroad can lead to unstable work/life balance.

Pros

Enjoyed my time at Sonoco. Great coworkers and managers. Upper management was alright but rarely had to deal with them. Day to day is pretty mundane but overall would recommend working here to anyone

Cons

No ability to move up

Pros

Cannot speak enough about how great the culture and leadership are at Sonoco. Every executive was approachable and genuinely supportive of employee development.

Cons

Lack of clear policy for managers on managing teams. Can be a pro but difficult to manage employee requests without having policy to support.

Pros

Stability, fair (but deteriorating) wages and benefits, good plant manager.

Cons

There are many better companies out there with higher wages, benefits and employee appreciation.

Pros

Great benefits, competitive salary and all round package

Cons

Due to multiple buy outs/ rebrands many of the senior management are stuck in their old ways. Lots of experience on site which is not valued by external management. A lack of willingness to address concerns and look after the wellbeing of managers when issues are raised leading to overstress, burnout and job creep.

Pros

The 401K has a generous 6% match. The leadership team genuinely cares. The in house HR teams goes above and beyond to provide fun events to increase engagement. The general culture on the production floor is also good and people are welcoming. The Plant Manager at our facility, Dan, is a delight to work with and has a lot of knowledge. There is a big focus on safety.

Cons

No AC on the production floor. Can be quite sticky in summer, but the leadership team does their best to offer hydration options and keep an eye out for heat exhaustion.

Pros

As a salaried worker, I feel very supported and trusted by management here. I know all managers are different but all of my managers so far have been very hands off but there if you need them, which I enjoy. Benefits are so-so but definitely improving each year as employees demand more. For most roles, they are pretty flexible about your work schedule which is super nice this day in age. From what I have seen, you have many opportunities to advance in your career, or even move to a different area if you don’t like what you were currently doing. Salary in my opinion is pretty decent and maybe even a little above average.

Cons

Company is based in the south so their views are a little tailored to certain beliefs which can cause a lot of frustration and discrimination at times. While they have a DE&I council, some of the groups get lack of air time and funding compared to others which is a big problem in my eyes. For example, the Women @ Sonoco or LGBT+ group often don’t get as many events or budget to plan events, etc. compared the the Veterans @ Sonoco group. Senior leadership is mostly white males but have gotten a few women in leadership roles over the years (still mostly white though). So, diversity is a bit of an issue but I know they are trying to actively change that.

Pros

I certainly appreciate the benefits that are awarded to us by both the company and the union's negotiations. among those are very competitive pay for the area, generous vacation time, and while we do work a good bit of overtime when the work schedule demands it, we have a pretty good work/life balance. compared to some of my past employers, management does seem like they care about the employee's well-being a bit more, I have personally been asked by the plant manager a plethora of times how I'm doing and how I'm liking everything,

Cons

since we do sometimes go from a "continuous" to a "non-continuous" schedule due to lack of business, the size of your paycheck will take a hit but this is simply an attempt to avoid laying off employees. while I did receive a pretty thorough three months of training I have heard from my co-workers in other departments that training can be a rushed process where they aren't entirely confident in how to perform their job. At times expectations as far as production or workload can be a bit foggy and are told to just do what you can and sometimes what you can do isn't quite enough in the eyes of supervisors who are likely getting a talking to from upper management and that rolls downhill to you.
