Pros
Consulting IC's were still relatively remote/flexible location when I left Pockets of great culture at the manager/IC/craft level Massive size comes with varied opportunities and client selection
Cons
Upward mobility is increasingly out of reach – new promo requirements and processes come into play frequently. The double header of job insecurity: 1) Consulting bench PIPs – while you aren't responsible for selling work as a consultant until SM/Associate Partner, you ARE responsible for finding a seat on a project - 6 weeks of no project = 30 day PIP, 30 more days and you're out for good 2) At least one layoff per year – hard to know who it will be. April and October are nail-biters. You have some way on #1 – networking and selling yourself is something you need to be comfortable with. #2 is what it is.
